Five years after the EU launched Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan with strong tobacco‑control goals, progress remains limited. The Nordic Cancer Union has therefore urged Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and Health Commissioner Olivér Várhelyi to update EU tobacco regulation without delay.
To protect public health, the EU needs stronger, harmonised measures: higher prices, tighter import rules, marketing restrictions, plain packaging, and flavour bans. These rules must apply not only to tobacco but also to all nicotine products.
