Meeting of the Board of the NCU in Reykjavík in May 2016

The Board of the Nordic Cancer Union held a meeting on the 30th of May in Reykjavik.

The statues of the NCU has been under scrutiny for some time and a new version was proposed and adopted at the meeting. The new version is more in line with the current view of the members of the NCU, and is considered more flexible and clear.

The Board also adopted a declaration in line with the World No Tobacco Day, which had been prepared by Kreftforeningen. It was decided that all the members would translate the declaration and get the attention of the media in the individual countries. Future work on tobacco control was discussed.

The Declaration
of intent by the European task force regarding the Equal access to Cancer Medicines was discussed; some members of NCU and the ECL among others are behind that work.  All of the countries are in agreement with the declaration and emphasize the importance of collaboration to ensure access to the best medicines available for cancer patients.

The countries compared the strengths and weaknesses of the cancer plans in the Nordic countries and shared information on status and future plans. Cancer screening in the Nordic countries was discussed, and it was decided to work further on that issue. Status of avoidable cancer research by NORDCAN was presented as was immigration and cancer registration, and cancer research and genetics in Iceland.

The next board meeting will be in Finland on September 1st, in connection with an ANCR/NCU symposium.
