NCU meeting in Helsinki in February 2015
The board of the Nordic Cancer Union had a meeting in Helsinki, Finland on the 20th of February 2015.
Many interesting subjects were on the agenda for the meeting in Helsinki. At the meeting a new Scientific Committee was elected. The new members are: Thorunn Rafnar, chairman of the committee, biologist, Ph.D. from Iceland; Johan Poulsen, physician and urologist from the Faroe Island; Elsebeth Lynge, professor and mag.scient.soc from Denmark; Klaus Peter Elenius, Ph.D and professor of medical biochemistry from Finland; Klas Karre, Ph.D and professor in molecular immunologi from Sweden and Kristina Kjærheim, chief physician from Norway.
The tasks of the committee are among others to assess scientific grant applications, secure high scientific quality and formulate recommendations regarding the applications to the Secretariats General for their decisions on grants.
Another subject on the agenda was a discussion of a joint Nordic effort on cancer treatment and research. Anders Geertsen from the Nordic Council of Ministers joined the meeting to inform NCU about the work in the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers. He also informed on the single elements in Bo Koenbergs report. It proved to be a fruitful meeting where the NCU had the opportunity to discuss future cooperation with the Nordic Council of Ministers.
The next meeting of the NCU will be held in Iceland on the 22nd of May 2015.
