The NCU chairmanship goes from the Faroe Islands to Iceland
After 3 years having served as chairman of the Nordic Cancer Union, Jákup N. Olsen has handed the chairmanship over to Iceland. From the 1. January 2015 it is Ragnheiður Haraldsdóttir, secretary general of the Icelandic Cancer Society, who will be directing the NCU work. The chairmanship of the Nordic Cancer Union rotates every 3 years.
Jákup N. Olsen is very pleased for his time as chairman of NCU and is grateful for everything that NCU has achieved in the past 3 years. Jákup says, that in his opinion the most valuable achievement these past 3 years is the adoption of the resoultion concerning closer cooperation between the NCU, the Nordic Council and the Nordic Council of Ministers (Resolution no. A1582).
Ragnheiður Haraldsdóttir, Secretary General of the Icelandic Cancer Society, and now NCU chairman, is very content that the resolution was adopted. Ragnheiður says that the NCU will focus on getting the resolution implemented in the Nordic Council of Ministers and in the health policies in the Nordic countries.
Ragnheiður Haraldsdóttir is pleased that Iceland now has the opportunity to lead the NCU in it’s ambitious goals to improve knowledge and understanding of cancer, ensure more effective prevention of cancer, provide better resulsts for treatment and rehabilitation and to enhance application of cancer treatment in the Nordic countries. As Iceland takes over the chairmanship, the Icelandic Cancer Society has asked Birita Ludvíksdóttir, who has served as NCU coordinator the last 3 years, if she can continue her work for Iceland for one year. Birita has agreed.
