NCU meeting in Copenhagen in February 2014

The Nordic Cancer Union had a meeting in Copenhagen on the 17th of February 2014.


The Nordic Cancer Union had a meeting in Copenhagen on the 17th of February 2014.


Many interesting subjects were on the agenda for the meeting in Copenhagen. Among the subjects were status on the norwegian NCD-strategi, the “Safety on Sun Holidays” project and a presentation of the new danish project concerning cancer patients needs and experiences during treatment and after lapse.

At the meeting, a working group, representing the NCU countries, presented a draft for a new NCU strategi. The working group suggests, that the prioritised areas of research in the forhtcoming years should be: register-based epidemiological studies, descriptive epidemiology, comparative clinical epidemiologic studies and clinical trials. The NCU meeting welcomed the presentation, and decided to let the working group continue their good work, so that the new NCU strategi can be presented at the general assembly in May 2014.

Another subject on the agenda, was a discussion of a joint nordic effort on cancer treatment and research. In January 2014 the Westnordic Health Ministers and Bo Kønberg had a meeting on the Faroe Islands, where Jákup N. Olsen, NCU chairman, and Birita Ludvíksdóttir, NCU coordinator, were invited to have a presentation on the NCU and benefits of strengthening nordic cooperation in the field of cancer. Jákup N. Olsen promissed to send a letter concerning a joint nordic effort on cancer treatment and research to Bo Kønberg, who is responsible for writing a report on how nordic cooperation on health can be improved and strenghened over the next 5-10 years. At the meeting in Copenhagen the suggestions concerning a joint nordic effort on cancer treatment and research were discussed, and it was agreed that the letter with the suggestions will be forwarded to Bo Kønberg.

The next meeting: the NCU general assembly will be held in Copenhagen on the 26th of May 2014.
